Kirk Rhein strikes gas for Reliance at NEC-25

Vol 10, PW 24 (05 Apr 07) News in Brief

Transocean semi-submersible C.

Kirk Rhein has struck gas for Reliance at eastern offshore shallow water block NEC-OSN-97/2 – also known as NEC-25. PETROWATCH learns the gas discovery was made in the very first well that Kirk Rhein drilled in this Bay of Bengal block, which has already seen several discoveries.

A source tells us Kirk Rhein drilled the latest discovery well, called A-5, to TD of 1100 metres in water depths of around 55 metres. Drilling was completed around 9th March, logs were recorded and a Modular Dynamic Test was carried out over one zone.

Reliance has already notified the DGH about the discovery, its sixth on NEC-25, where proven and probable gas is estimated to be 5-tcf. After A-5, Kirk Rhein spud well A-6 around 12th March in 98 metres water depth.

Drilling reached TD of 1739 metres and Reliance has carried out a MDT here also. Results are being analysed.

Kirk Rhein is now drilling its third well at NEC-25: A-9-A.
