Essar wins three blocks in Madagascar

Essar Oil has won three onshore blocks in Madagascar off the coast of East Africa in the countrys recent licensing round.

On 31st October, Essar Group president for exploration and production Kharak Singh signed a PSC with OMNIS (Office des Mines Nationales et des Industries Strategiques) in Madagascar for blocks 3105, 3110 and 3115. Contacted by PETROWATCH an official for OMNIS confirmed the award: The PSC was signed today (31st October) and will be sent to the President of the Republic of Madagascar for signing on Thursday (2nd November).

There is a holiday on 1st November. Adds OMNIS: The contract will be formally announced and will come into force only after the President issues an official decree to this effect.

Madagascar announced a licensing round for ten onshore blocks on 30th April and the last date for bids was 15th July. We learn separately Oil India declined an invitation to bid because it did not find the region or the acreage prospective.
