Cairn strikes more oil and gas in Rajasthan

Vol 9, PW 16 (17 Nov 05) News in Brief

Cairn Energy has announced significant new gas potential at RJ-ON-90/1 in Rajasthan.

In an operational update issued on 10th November, Cairn announced that gas discovery well GS-V-1 in the Greater Saraswati area flowed 3.2m cf/d and 70 b/d of 47.5 degree API condensate on a 32/64-inch choke. Says Cairn: Exploration prospects around the GS-V-1 discovery highlight further gas potential, which Cairn will target by an exploration-drilling programme.

Cairn also announced a new oil discovery at the N-R-4 well, drilled 6.5-km west of the Vijaya and Vandana fields to a depth of 2741m. Based on the N-R-4 well and an appraisal well (N-R-5) together with 3D seismic mapping, the oil in place for the N-R-4 discovery is initially estimated at 100m to 400m barrels gross.

Cairn said N-R-4 flowed approximately 40 b/d heavy oil but that future production is likely to be low.
