In our last edition we wrote a story entitled, ‘Whistle-blowing policy strikes fear at Cairn India’ in which we stated Cairn India introduced its whistle-blowing policy in 2013.

Cairn India has objected to this item saying the policy in question was introduced in 2009. A letter from a Cairn India spokesman says: “The (whistle-blowing) policy has been in place since 2009, viz.

for more than five years. The policy is designed to enable and encourage employees to report on any unethical practices.

It empowers employees to raise “concerns” internally at a significantly higher level and to disclose information which the individual believes shows malpractice or wrongdoing and can affect the business or reputation of the organisation. As part of our governance all such concerns which fall within this scope are seriously considered, investigated and dealt with appropriately.
