Consultants compete for NTPC mandate

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is examining bids from several management consultancies for a mandate to restructure the organisation.

The mandate does not include a revamp of financial and operational procedures but only administration and organisational streamlining. A source at NTPC reveals a consultant will be selected by the end of the year.

The following consultancies are reported to have bid for the NTPC mandate: McKinsey; Arthur Andersen; PriceWaterhouseCoopers; KPMG; Arthur D. Little and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Ahmedabad.

With installed capacity of 16,000-MW, NTPC is Indias single biggest power developer. It has ambitions to enter the LNG business and is pursuing a 16.66% stake in Petronet-LNG and a 26% stake in the British Gas promoted Pipavav LNG project.
