GAIL invites tender for pipeline from Myanmar

GAIL has issued a global tender for a consultant to prepare a detailed feasibility report for an onshore pipeline from Myanmar, bypassing Bangladesh through Indias northeastern states.

GAILs tender issued on 23rd November includes preparation of an environment management plan and a rapid risk analysis. On 14th November five companies attended a GAIL pre-bid conference: Worley, J P Kenny, ILF Consulting, Tractebel and EON of Germany.

GAIL wants to import 33.5m cm/d of gas from Myanmar, 3.5m cm/d from Tripura and 4.5m cm/d from Assam. Included is a proposal to construct a 59-km offshore pipeline from block A1 to a landfall point in Myanmar and another 225-km pipeline to the border with India.

GAIL envisages the pipeline entering India at Aizawl in Mizoram and then on to Guwahati in Assam, Jalpaiguri in West Bengal and Gaya in Bihar, from where it will join a proposed pipeline from Haldia to Jagdishpur. Bid documents will be available until 27th December.
