Vol 9, PW 20 (26 Jan 06) News in Brief

Uttar Pradesh authorities have again postponed a meeting to resolve conflicting claims for city gas distribution licences.

Originally scheduled for 6th January, the meeting was postponed to 16th January and then to (Friday) 27th January. The meeting scheduled for 16th January at Lucknow has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances, said a one-page letter sent out by the Uttar Pradesh State Industries Development Corporation, which is the central agency for setting up CGD networks in the state.

Now this meeting of the Interdepartmental Committee constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government shall be held on 27th January at 12 noon in the conference hall of the Industrial Development Commissioner of the Uttar Pradesh government. GAIL is lobbying against the entry of private CGD companies into UP particularly into key cities like Lucknow and Kanpur.

Also pending are CGD licences for Bareilly, Agra and Rampur.
