On 16th January, GAIL announced that newly incorporated MNGL would begin first supplies from September next year. GAIL said MGNL would set up 29 CNG stations and supply piped gas to 1000 domestic consumers in the initial phase lasting three years and that gas would come from a proposed gas pipeline from Panvel to Pune linked to the proposed Dahej to Uran pipeline.

GAIL adds that the Dahej to Uran pipeline still under a cloud of controversy - will be operational in February 2007. MNGL is GAILs seventh city gas distribution joint venture after Mumbai-based Mahanagar Gas, Delhi-based Indraprastha Gas, Hyderabad-based Bhagyanagar Gas, Tripura Natural Gas, Central UP Gas and Green Gas.
