Unconfirmed reports from Iran suggest Pakistan's ruler General Pervez Musharraf has signed an "agreement" for the construction of a 1,500-km gas pipeline through Pakistan to India.

The Iranian News Agency (IRNA) reports an agreement with National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) during Musharraf's two-day visit to Teheran on 10th June for a summit meeting of the regional "Economic Cooperation Organisation". Precise details of the "agreement" remain elusive.

Other reports indicate Pakistan has begun work on a gas pipeline between Iran and Pakistan. India's Ministry of External Affairs opposes an extension of the pipeline into its territory.
