Gas from HBJ for RPG Dholpur Power Company

Vol 4, PW 8 (24 May 00) News in Brief

RPG Dholpur Power Company is asking the oil ministry to allocate natural gas from the Hazira-Bijaipur-Jagdishpur pipeline for its proposed 702.7-MW power plant in Rajasthan.

A senior source at the RPG Group of Sanjay Goenka tells Petrowatch that the project - which has escrow cover and is set to reach financial closure - prefers gas to naphtha. Originally conceived as a naphtha-fired plant, RPG signed an MOU with Petronet-LNG in December last year for the supply of 3m cm/d of gas.

However, first supplies from Petronet-LNG are not expected before July 2003. The HBJ has a capacity of 33.4m cm/d and carries natural gas from the Bombay Offshore.
