Mathura refinery to close for 30 days

A 7.5m tonnes a year (t/y) refinery operated by Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) at Mathura will close for 30 days beginning 20th March.

An official from Indias Oil Coordination Committee (OCC) said the shutdown is necessary to carry out essential maintenance and repairs. An earlier decision to close the Mathura refinery on 7th January this year was cancelled following fears that it would result in a shortage of petroleum products.

The decision to proceed with a month-long shutdown in March reflects confidence that India can offset loss of production from Mathura with production from elsewhere. Meanwhile, Reliance Petroleum this month sold three cargoes of Free On Board (FOB) naphtha totalling 100,000 tonnes for export to Singapore (2 cargoes) and Middle East (one cargo) from its refinery at Jamnagar.
