Hard act to follow for new Koyali chief Kumar

Vol 20, PW 12 (09 Mar 17) News in Brief

IndianOil's new Koyali refinery head Sudhir Kumar will have a tough time meeting the high expectations left by his predecessor.

Earlier general manager (technical) at the Panipat refinery, Kumar moved to Koyali on February 23 to replace Sanat Kumar Dhargupta who retired on January 31. IndianOil's Koyali refinery is undergoing a Rs4096.83cr ($616m) upgrade to begin producing BS-IV grade fuel by the government-imposed deadline of April 1, 2017 and BS-VI grade fuel by April 2020.

"Kumar will have to match Dhargupta's fast pace," says a source. "As Koyali chief for nearly three years Dhargupta was positive, fast and full of new ideas." Kumar completed a mechanical engineering degree before joining IndianOil and has more than 30 years of experience.

He also worked at the company's Mathura and Haldia refineries and at IndianOil's corporate office in Delhi. Koyali with a 247,000 b/d capacity is IOC's third largest refinery after Paradip in Orissa and Panipat in Haryana.
