But more jobs at the DGH after deregulation

Vol 5, PW 16 (26 Sep 01) News in Brief

By contrast deregulation of the oil sector could mean a significant hike in staff numbers for the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, something its chief Avinash Chandra has long demanded.

Today the DGH is allowed to have 95 'sanctioned' staff (85 executives and 10 non-executives) but the actual number of people working there is only 71 (62 executives and 9 non-executives). Now the DGH is comparing its staff strength to regulators in Norway, Britain and the US, which have 370, 430 and 1,700 personnel respectively.

We learn the oil ministry is (at last!) taking note and is busy encouraging personnel from ONGC and Oil India to join the DGH on "deputation".
