Job cuts in the oil ministry post-APM

If India's oil sector is fully de-regulated on schedule by 31st March 2002 scores of oil ministry mandarins might find themselves without a job.

A government-appointed 'Expenditure Reforms Commission' has recommended 're-organisation of work' within the ministry and a "consequential reduction in staff strengths after the petroleum sector is fully deregulated." What does this mean "Abolition of 20 posts of the level of section officers and above and corresponding reduction of subordinate level posts. What does the ministry think of this shedding of flab In typical babu-speak we are told, "an intensive review is necessary to firm up the (oil) ministry's views on these recommendations."
