Wanted: 72 new recruits for Barmer refinery

Vol 23, PW 11 (09 Apr 20) News in Brief

In these uncertain times, Hindustan Petroleum’s proposed Barmer refinery offers a ray of hope for experienced workers and fresh graduates looking for jobs.

On March 20, HPCL Rajasthan Refinery (HRRL) began looking to fill 72 technical and non-technical positions for the refinery project and wants applications sent in by April 24 (2020). "The outbreak of Coronavirus and low crude oil prices have hit the oil and gas industry hard, and employees fear job losses and salary cuts," an industry source tells us.

"A recruitment drive is good news." Wanted are 22 mechanical engineers, 17 electrical engineers, 11 instrumentation engineers and ten civil engineers plus six fire and safety engineers.

Also needed are two candidates in finance, two in HR and one each for information systems and legal roles. "Jobs are for both experienced candidates (up to nine years) and fresh graduates," an HPCL source tells us.

Four different pay grades are on offer with monthly salaries ranging from Rs40,000 to Rs200,000 ($523 to $2600). HRRL will use different selection methods, including an online test followed by a group task and interviews.

Successful candidates will have a year's probation.
