Rodriguez rejects Indian demand for cheap OPEC crude

OPEC Secretary General Ali Rodriguez has rejected Indian demands for a two-tier pricing system to help developing countries pay for crude imports.

Rodriguez - who is originally from Venezuela - was in Delhi on 19th March to attend a seminar on 'Cooperation between OPEC and the Developing World', organised by the Tata Energy Research Institute and the Embassy of Venezuela in India. Rodriguez said OPEC could not offer discounted crude to particular countries and advised India to sign bi-lateral preferential agreements with individual OPEC nations on the model of Venezuela's agreement with Caribbean states.
