Vol 7, PW 19 (03 Dec 03) News in Brief

Oil minister Ram Naik has received the first report of the TS Vijayraghavan panel appointed to investigate the 11th August crash of an ONGC-hired helicopter, which killed 27 people on board.

Ministry officials declined to comment on the report, submitted on 2nd December, saying they are yet to study its recommendations. However, PETROWATCH understands that this first report only examines circumstances surrounding the crash.

A second report to be submitted later will probe all aspects of the crash and issue recommendations. On 18th August, the ministry appointed former oil secretary TS Vijayraghavan to head a three-member panel to probe the crash.

Other members of the panel are former Oil India chairman Maj. Gen (Rtd) SC Jatar and management consultant Pritam Singh.

Panel members have visited the crash site, met ONGC officials and the company that owns the helicopter.
