HPCL wants Cairn Rajasthan crude for Bhatinda

Vol 7, PW 19 (03 Dec 03) News in Brief

Cairn Energy has a ready buyer for any crude it might produce from RJ-ON-90/1 in Rajasthan.

In October, Hindustan Petroleum laid claim to any future production from RJ-ON-90/1 for its proposed 9m t/y refinery at Bhatinda in Punjab. With the discovery of crude oil in Rajasthan, states HPCL, we had scouted in and around our pipeline areas and were glad to observe that these fields (RJ-ON-90/1) are close to the route of the pipeline.

HPCL asks the ministry to treat its request as an Expression of Interest. Subject to the quality of the crude, we would be interested in the crude produced from the fields in and around the oil supply pipeline to Bhatinda refinery.

On 10th November, HPCL told oil secretary BK Chaturvedi of its plans to construct a crude oil pipeline to carry imported Arab Medium from the Gujarat port of Mundra to Bhatinda passing through Salawas and Bikaner adjacent to Cairn Energys RJ-ON-90/1 block.
