Pankaj Kumar heads to Delhi as OSD

Vol 24, PW 19 (12 Aug 21) News in Brief

Outgoing Ahmedabad asset manager Pankaj Kumar took charge as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in Delhi on August 9 (2021) ahead of his appointment as ONGC's new director offshore to replace Rajesh Kakkar, who retired on April 30 (2021).

On July 26 (2021), ONGC general manager Jagdev Singh Negi issued a one-page order confirming Kumar's transition to OSD - a routine appointment to help incoming directors familiarise themselves with their new role. "I am going to Delhi tomorrow evening (August 7)," confirmed Kumar, on the sidelines of an August 6 (2021) seminar in Gandhinagar where he was accompanying interim ONGC chairman Subhash Kumar.

"Once my appointment as director offshore comes, I will take over as the director offshore." Kumar should have taken over as OSD in Delhi on August 6 (2021), but this was delayed by two days because the ONGC chairman visited Ahmedabad the same day.

Fifty-five-year-old Kumar was selected as the new director offshore on June 4 (2021). Born on June 30 (1966), he will be the youngest director on ONGC's board when he takes charge for five years until retirement, aged 60, on June 31 (2026).

Kumar was appointed Ahmedabad asset manager on January 27 (2020), aged 53. "He was the youngest ED to take charge as Ahmedabad asset manager," adds a colleague.

Before Ahmedabad, Kumar was Cambay asset manager since August 2019.
