After more than a year, Petronet-LNG has finally rushed through the selection of a director technical to replace Rajender Singh who retired on July 19 (2019).

On August 25, Petronet-LNG announced: "The Board has selected (IndianOil's) Pramod Narang (Application ID: 201908003237) for the post of director (technical)." A source remarks on the speed of the process this time; the selection committee conducted the interviews on August 22, and the result was out three days later.

"Normally it takes a month to announce a winner," he adds. "But this time a secret Board meeting was called on August 25, and the winner was announced directly on the website."

Earlier the Board planned to select the winner at its next meeting, initially scheduled for September 9. "The last time the post was advertised," our source further adds.

"There was a lot of controversy during the (scrapped) selection of Anil Joshi. Probably the Board didn't want a repeat this time."

Petronet-LNG received more than 80 applications in the last round in January 2019 but had to scrap the process after it received complaints against GSPC LNG president (projects) Joshi, its first choice. Another reason Petronet-LNG might have rushed the selection this time is to ensure it took place before MD Prabhat Singh retires on September 13.

"He had clear instructions from the oil ministry to conclude the process early," we hear.
