More horizontal well success at ONGC

Vol 22, PW 20 (25 Jul 19) News in Brief

ONGC's enthusiasm for horizontal drilling at its Nazira-based ASSAM ASSET shows no sign of letting up.

By July 17, ONGC was ready to drop casing and begin production testing well RSEM_H at the Rudrasagar field after it struck oil at 3823 metres TD from Barail sand formations. Drilled by company-owned rig EV-2000-4, well RSEM_H was spud on April 5 and completed on June 24.

At the Lakwa field, ONGC expects similar good news from Tipam sand formations after spudding horizontal well LKGP_H with company-owned E-1400-21 rig on June 14. By June 23, drilling had crossed 1600 metres or more than half planned TD of 3162 metres.

Likewise at the nearby Geleki field ONGC is hoping to encounter oil from Tipam sand formations at well GKKB_H spud on June 5 by company-owned rig E-1400-6. By June 23 drilling at GKKB_H had crossed 1900 metres - still short of planned 3162 metres TD.

Also at Geleki, ONGC this month (July) carried out 20-inch conductor casing on well GKJI_H spud on April 29 by 2000-hp company-owned rig ARMCHE-1. By June this year, horizontal wells RSEN_H at Rudrasagar and GKJH_H at Geleki also encountered oil from Barail sand formations.
