Surprise as PPG Sarma joins AG&P as MD

Vol 22, PW 5 (13 Dec 18) News in Brief

At last the mystery is solved - PPG Sarma has joined city gas newcomer AG&P as its new managing director.

This report learns Sarma took over as MD of the Singapore arm of Manila-headquartered Atlantic Gulf & Pacific Company on December 1 based in Chennai. His last day as a short-lived VP at Torrent Gas was November 27.

"Sarma will look after AG&P's city gas business and its proposed LNG terminal at Karaikal," confirms an industry colleague. On joining AG&P, Sarma immediately began work lining up gas for areas the company won under CGD-IX with calls to GAIL and GSPL industry colleagues for the latest updates on upcoming trunk pipelines in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, especially the Mehsana to Bhatinda pipeline.

AG&P won three CGD-IX areas: Barmer, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur in Rajasthan; Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu and Ramanathapuram, also in Tamil Nadu. AG&P is also driving a 155,000-cubic metre floating LNG storage facility and 3.5m cm/d land based re-gasification facility at Karaikal Port south of Chennai.

No one at AG&P was willing to confirm Sarma's appointment.
