BG severs final Gujarat Gas link

Vol 17, PW 10 (19 Dec 13) News in Brief

British Gas has cut its final link to Gujarat Gas with the return of managing director Sugata Sircar to the parent company.

Sircar, 50, stepped down as Gujarat Gas managing director on December 12 to be replaced as MD ‘in-charge’ by PPG Sarma, himself a former BG employee but today chief of GSPC gas retailer GSPC Gas. Sarma, 51, say informed sources, plans to aggressively expand the south Gujarat gas retailer’s presence.

“In eight years Sarma nurtured GSPC Gas into India’s largest city gas distributor,” says a source. “He wants to do the same at Gujarat Gas.

” Sarma, we hear, will propel Gujarat Gas into rural areas of Surat and Bharuch. Sircar’s departure was an option in GSPC’s buy-out agreement with BG on October 3, 2012.

Gujarat Gas general manager Sandip Gandhi and head of strategy & regulation Arun Ramakrishnan also returned to BG in November. Sircar, who trained as a chartered accountant, took charge as Gujarat Gas MD in July 2012.
