More allegations against Prabhat Singh at P-LNG

Vol 21, PW 23 (23 Aug 18) People & Policy

Another whistleblower has added to a growing list of 'conflict of interest' allegations against Petronet-LNG chief Prabhat Singh.

On July 25 oil secretary MM Kutty received an anonymous letter accusing Singh (yet again) of awarding a contract to a company with a connection to his daughter, violating Section 188 (1) of the Companies Act, 2013. Under scrutiny this time is Petronet-LNG's decision to award a Rs36.27 Lakh ($60,450) contract to Mumbai-based MAD DANCE COMPANY to perform a theatrical show called 'Soul of India' during its 20th Foundation Day celebrations at Siri Fort Auditorium in Delhi on May 12, 2017.

Petronet-LNG allegedly hired the dance troupe without tender through agent Giant Reel, which according to documents submitted by the whistleblower is owned by Lavisha Virat Singh Kumpawat, a resident of Malad (West) in Mumbai. Kumpawat and Prabhat Singh's daughter Roli Purnima Singh are both directors of private limited company Custom Made.

"Singh has misused his official position and awarded a contract to Giant Reel which has a direct link to his daughter," alleges the whistleblower. Custom Made is also under scrutiny over a Petronet-LNG contract won without tender in 2017 to prepare a $24,000 promotional video showcasing the Dahej LNG terminal, as reported in our June 28, 2018 edition.

All attempts to contact Prabhat Singh on his mobile were unsuccessful and he did not reply to a text or email.
