OVL director exploration interviews this month

Vol 21, PW 14 (19 Apr 18) People & Policy

Later this month we should know who will be the next director exploration at ONGC Videsh (OVL).

On April 27 the PESB is holding interviews to select a replacement for Sudhir Sharma who retires on September 30. Seven candidates have been called for interview.

ONGC sources suggest Tarun Shah, general manager at Jodhpur, a trained geologist and an excellent manager, has a good chance. "He's a great guy to work with," we hear.

Geophysicist GS Chaturvedi at EXCOM is said to be knowledgeable and determined to win on merit without political support. Puneet Suri in the same department is said to have vast experience.

KK Gupta, regional president of OVL's Russia business based in Delhi is a reservoir engineer who has an edge with his vast OVL experience. RK Srivastava, head of ONGC's exploration and development directorate in Dehradun, is equally competent.

"Srivastava retires in 2023," we hear. "If he doesn't become OVL director exploration he will try for ONGC director exploration." H.

Madhavan, a geologist in the director exploration office also has the technical knowledge and personality to become an OVL director. "There is only one 'bad' thing about him," says a source, sarcastically.

"He is too honest! That's why he was dropped from the promotion list of group general managers for the second time. His crime was that he objected to a proposal to outsource work that ONGC could have done itself."
