Hyderabad-headquartered gas retailer Bhagyanagar Gas has hit back at allegations of a recruitment racket at the company.

A Bhagyanagar source insists it is a transparent organisation. "We are promoted by state-owned companies and subject to stringent audits," he says.

"These kinds of things cannot happen at our company." Industry sources allege Bhagyanagar's interview process to fill 12 vacancies in its marketing, purchase, human resources and operations and maintenance departments was a facade designed to mask the fact that jobs were gifted to pre-selected candidates. Bhagyanagar held interviews on March 14 and 15.

"Bhagyanagar invited applications from interested candidates on its website (www.bglgas.com) as well as job placement sites like Naukri.com," says a source. "More than 1000 applications were received online." A source present at the interviews claims that around 400 candidates arrived at the Basheerbagh office in Hyderabad.

"There was no entrance exam," he alleges "Candidates sat at the Bhagyanagar office from morning to evening awaiting interviews." By late evening on March 14, he adds, candidates were told the selection process was over. Our Bhagyanagar source adds disgruntled candidates who failed to get a job are spreading rumours.

"We are a small company," he says. "Let me give you the correct numbers.

We didn't interview 400 candidates. We only interviewed 40 and shortlisted 19-20."
