Gujarat Petroleum was forced to suspend drilling for six days at its KG-OSN-2001/3 exploration block on 17th August when its Saipem drillship Perro Negro 3 met with a minor accident.

PETROWATCH learns the drill string of Perro Negro 3 broke into two pieces while drilling the well KG-1 at 600 metres. Operations resumed on 23rd August.

Target depth is 3,400 metres. We are sidetracking from the previous well, a GSPC source tells us.

The present well has been cemented. GSPC blames inadequate drilling data from the DGH for its problems.

This is an unknown region and we had anticipated some problems beforehand. After several delays, GSPC finally began drilling on 31st July on a structural closure.

GSPC is operator at KG-OSN-2001/3 with an 80% stake. GeoGlobal Resources and Jubilant Enpro each hold 10%.

GSPC is now five days behind its 70-day drilling schedule.
