Aban bids lowest in rig tender for 98/2

Aban Offshore can expect a LoA soon in ONGC's fast-track tender to hire a rig that can drill in water depths of 1500 metres for two years at eastern offshore discovery block KG-DWN-98/2.

When ONGC opened bids on June 10 Aban bid lowest offering Aban Abraham presently offshore Brazil at an Operating Day Rate (ODR) of $105,582. Far behind was Transocean subsidiary Deepwater Pacific 1 Inc offering Deepwater Millennium presently off Myanmar at $149,000.

In third place Vantage Drilling offered Platinum Explorer offshore Malaysia at $162,000; Seadrill Offshore offered West Orion off Brazil at $162,500; Dynamic Drilling offered Noble Dave Beard also off Brazil at $173,530; and finally Saipem Portugal offered Saipem 12000 offshore Namibia at $268,000/day. ONGC wants this rig to accelerate development and quickly monetise discoveries at KG-DWN-98/2 for which its Board approved a Rs34,012cr ($5bn) Field Development Plan on March 28.

ONGC wants the rig to drill nine development wells at the Cluster 2 fields at 98/2.
