Faithful ONGC rig back in action

Vol 19, PW 8 (17 Dec 15) News in Brief

Fondly described by ONGC veterans as an old 'workhorse', ONGC re-inducted onland drilling rig Cardwell M700-VII into its rig fleet on November 27 after a six-month break.

PETROWATCH learns the rig will continue to drill wells at the Mehsana asset for another 10 years till 2025. The rig was sent for its third maintenance and upgrade to ONGC’s central workshop at Vadodara in May this year.

Commissioned on August 28, 1989, Cardwell M700-VII has drilled 180 onland wells at over 28 Mehsana fields till March 31 this year. Mehsana is ONGC’s largest onland asset producing 44,000 b/d of 13-42 degree API oil and 430,000 cm/d of gas.

This rig previously had two major capital overhauls in 1997 and 2004. Separately, the number of wells drilled annually at Mehsana has fallen from 89 in 2012-13 to 79 in 2013-14 to 67 in 2014-15.

In 2015-16 ONGC is likely to complete 70.
