Desperate L&T wants V. Ashwini Kumar

Vol 19, PW 4 (22 Oct 15) News in Brief

Short-staffed after a damaging corruption scandal forced a spate of top-level resignations, Larsen & Toubro is trying to entice back other senior executives who quit in the past.

One of them is V. Ashwini Kumar - now group president, EPC projects, at IOT Infrastructure & Energy Services, which he joined in May 2014.

An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, Kumar was a rising star in L&T’s power and international oil and gas division before he was sidelined by DK Gupta, executive vice-president (operations) L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering and made CEO of insignificant ventures like L&T SapuraCrest and head of the Floating System Business Unit. L&T asked Kumar in late September to return but he is understood to have refused.

When contacted, Kumar said he doesn’t plan to return to L&T. “I don’t want to talk about this,” he said.

DK Gupta was the most senior of ten executives asked to quit in September following queries over overvalued ONGC subcontracts. He refused to comment when contacted.
