UP Singh checks ONGC projects in Abu Dhabi

Vol 18, PW 25 (13 Aug 15) News in Brief

If you're wondering what's happened to the long-delayed Sagar Samrat conversion to a mobile offshore processing unit (MOPU) or delivery of the C-26 & B-173 A-B well platform ask oil ministry joint secretary Upendra Prasad Singh.

Between August 7-10 Singh visited Abu Dhabi with ONGC director offshore TK Sengupta and chief of offshore engineering services Sachin Sen to chase up the two delayed ONGC projects. In 2011, ONGC awarded the Sagar Samrat project to a consortium of Mercator and Gulf Piping Company (GPC) with a May 2013 delivery deadline.

In 2012 it awarded the Rs527cr ($82m) C-26 Cluster & B173 A-B well platform job to Essar Projects and Italian partner Saipem with an April 30, 2014 deadline, pushed back to January 31, 2015. "Singh reviewed progress," we hear.

"He received assurances that both projects would be delivered by December 2015." Seeing is believing!
