Four bid in Oil India Mizo rig tender

Vol 18, PW 20 (04 Jun 15) News in Brief

Four companies sent in bids to Oil India by its May 12 deadline to hire another rig for NELP-IV Mizoram block MZ-ONN-2004/1 to join a 2000-hp rig from JayBee Energy that's already carrying out exploratory drilling.

Oil India needs a second 2000-hp land rig including top drive system and waste treatment facility with crew and services. An Oil India source tells us Noida-based SS Engineering, Houston-based Nabors, Quippo and JayBee Energy submitted bids.

“But SS Engineering did not submit all the documents,” adds Oil India. Quippo requested a deadline extension but this was turned down.

Oil India is evaluating technical bids and hopes to open price bids by end-June before issuing a LoA by August. JayBee Energy is drilling Oil India's first well at this block, Aibawk-I, to 4500 metres, which it expects to complete by end-June.

Spud on July 7 last year at location MZ-3, drilling is challenging and slow in Mizoram’s rugged terrain. Oil India previously cancelled a tender for a 2000-hp rig in 2013.
