Queries delay ONGC vessel tender

Vol 18, PW 20 (04 Jun 15) News in Brief

Massive tenders generate an equally massive number of queries.

Bidders in ONGC’s attempt to hire 20 offshore vessels for five years had until the close of business hours on June 4 to respond to concerns sent out on May 25. One more round of queries is expected, given the size of the tender, the largest of its kind from ONGC.

By the April 17 deadline, ONGC had received bids from 26 Indian and foreign companies offering a total 166 vessels, the largest ever response to such a tender as bidders scramble to grab long-term contracts in a depressed market triggered by low oil prices. ONGC wanted two 150-tonne Anchor Handling Tugs (AHTS) and received 33 offers.

Also required are two 120-tonne AHTS for which it received 20 offers. For two 80-tonne AHTS it received 18 offers.

Two Platform Supply Vessels each of 3000 dead weight tonnes are also needed and for this ONGC received 41 offers. Against a requirement of 12 Offshore Supply Vessels, ONGC received 54 offers.
