ONGC preparing EoI for OBC seismic

Vol 18, PW 17 (23 Apr 15) News in Brief

ONGC is expected to invite EoIs by end-April to shoot Ocean Bottom Cable or Ocean Bottom Node-Transition Zone (OBC/OBN-TZ) 3D in the western and eastern offshore.

ONGC wants to shoot 2200-sq km 3D in the Tapti-Daman area of the western offshore and the KG basin in the eastern offshore. ONGC’s Western Offshore Basin is inviting EoIs for the estimated $230m assignment to “understand the market.

” It will take one season to shoot KG seismic and two to shoot western offshore seismic. “If ONGC hurries, it can issue a tender in June for mobilisation in September,” says a contractor.

“If not, they will miss this season.” Likely bidders include Russian companies SMNG-Center and YMG, Geokinetics, Fugro and CGG joint venture Seabed Geo Solutions, FairfieldNodal and WesternGeco.

These same bidders are likely to respond when ONGC issues EoIs, possibly later this month, to shoot 300-sq km of OBC/OBN-TZ 3D for the offshore extension of the Gandhar field onshore Gujarat.
