Veritas and CGG confirmed for ONGC seismic job

Vol 8, PW 17 (17 Nov 04) News in Brief

After a prolonged wait ONGCs executive purchase committee has cleared the award of one seismic survey contract each to CGG of France and Veritas of the US.

ONGC blames several administrative factors for the delay in confirming the awards. We can now begin the seismic shoot, reveals a source.

This report learns that CGG has already started the process to bring its multi-streamer vessels to Indian waters. We hope to start shooting by the middle or end of November, says a source close to CGG.

The company plans to deploy four vessels to complete the job by June 2005. In September this year, CGG won ONGCs 3D ocean bottom cable and transition zone seismic data acquisition programme for the east coast of India.

It will also shoot ONGCs 3D seismic across 13, 000-sq km on the east and west coasts. Separately, Veritas emerged sole bidder for ONGCs 5230-line km full fold long offset 2D seismic tender.
