Shashi Shankar faces disciplinary action

ONGC is hinting that director technical Shashi Shankar might be “disciplined” following his abrupt dismissal on February 23.

“ONGC has informed the BSE that the Company has been informed by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, vide an Order dated February 23, 2015, that disciplinary proceeding against Shri. Shashi Shankar, Director (T&FS) are contemplated," reads an ONGC statement.

"The competent authority in the exercise of the powers conferred under ONGC Conduct, Discipline and Appeal Rules, 1994, has placed Shashi Shankar under suspension with immediate effect.” Shankar’s dismissal has sent shockwaves through ONGC.

“Shashi Shankar, Director Technical & Field Services, ONGC has committed gross misconduct while dealing with a tender for the procurement of 21 BOPs,” said a government statement. “Taking strong note of the lapses the Government has ordered the suspension of Shankar with immediate effect to ensure a fair and transparent inquiry.
