OVL looks at Middle East and further afield in Africa

Vol 8, PW 18 (01 Dec 04) Exploration & Production

ONGC Videsh is desperate to get a foothold in the Middle East and has asked Delhi to lobby with Kuwaiti authorities for the North Field development service contract.

This could be a stepping stone for more projects in the region, OVL tells us. OVL and Indian Oil together hold 10% along with BP (65%) and Occidental (25%) in the bidding consortium for North Field.

A government-to-government initiative is essential for this deal, he adds. Our consortium partners are asking the UK government to lobby Kuwait.

OVL wants Delhi to begin lobbying fast as the Kuwaiti parliament is expected to decide on the contract by February 2005.
