Sintex drilling delayed by three months

Vol 18, PW 5 (23 Oct 14) News in Brief

Oil and gas newcomer Sintex faces a three-month delay to its eight-well exploration programme at 144-sq km NELP-VIII onland Cambay block CB-ONN-2009/7.

Sintex submitted its EIA report to the environment ministry in August and was expecting clearance the same month. But environment ministry officials have directed Sintex to make a fresh presentation on October 30.

“I don’t know why the ministry has called us,” confirms a Sintex source. “But we will be there with all the required details.

” Sintex now expects it can begin drilling no earlier than January 2015 - it wanted to begin this month (October). Sintex successfully completed public hearings on June 27 at Ahmedabad and May 20 at Mehsana and on July 25 issued a LoA for two Quippo land rigs.

“Once we get environmental clearance we’ll ask Quippo to mobilise,” we hear. Sintex wants to offload its stake in CB-ONN-2009/7 and two other Gujarat blocks CB-ONN-2009/1 and CB-ONN-2009/2 to ONGC.
