Green Gas announces massive expansion plans

Green Gas wants to please Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his mission to rapidly increase the number of homes receiving piped gas across the country.

Is it too ambitious? At the company’s AGM in Lucknow on September 30 Green Gas unveiled a radical new growth plan for Agra and Lucknow: an additional 15,000 household connections in each city in six months or by March 2015. If it meets this target it will be a tremendous achievement.

In the last eight years Green Gas has connected only 954 homes in Lucknow and just 3144 in Agra, home to the Taj Mahal. Green Gas sources confirm the company is under intense oil ministry pressure to expand, like other gas retailers.

“Until now we could not expand because of the small quantities of cheap gas available,” we hear. “Now the ministry is allocating cheap domestic gas to us as a priority.

” In 2016 and 2017 Green Gas hopes to connect 15,000 households each year in Lucknow and another 10,000 in Agra each year hoping to add 80,000 homes in total in three years. “We’ve signed contracts with private builders to offer connections to housing societies and 750 connections are in progress in Agra,” adds Green Gas.

“We’re also targeting government colonies.”
