Industry newcomer LNG Bharat received crucial Terms of Reference from the environment ministry on May 26 - its third attempt.

This is the first step before environmental clearance for its proposed 5m t/y LNG Floating Storage Unit (FSU) at Krishnapatnam port in Andhra Pradesh. A company source says it will now take until February next year (2015) to gather data to model how the project will be affected by the monsoon before conducting public hearings.

N. Chandrababu Naidu, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, is said to be keenly supporting the FSU project, anxious to build up the state’s infrastructure.

Navayuga Engineering, the engineering arm of Krishnapatnam Port, will begin constructing the jetty after receiving environmental clearance. “The jetty design has been finalised,” we hear.

LNG Bharat has also hired brokers to hire or buy the LNG vessel needed for storage, though it would prefer to hire one. LNG Bharat says it has inspected vessels.
