Former ONGC executive director and basin manager DP Sahasrabudhe joined Gurgaon-based Selan Exploration as director (technical) on April 1 to help the BSE-listed company ramp up gas production at its five small Cambay basin fields in Gujarat.

Sahasrabudhe spent 35 years at ONGC until his retirement in 2012, most recently as its Kolkata MBA basin manager. “Selan will benefit greatly from Sahasrabudhe’s expertise,” says a former colleague.

“He's an expert in geology and geophysics and knows the basin well.” On an annual salary of Rs60 lakhs ($100,000), Sahasrabudhe will spend most of his time at Indrora, Selan’s base.

A source close to Selan adds Sahasrabudhe’s management experience and expertise make him more of an acting CEO than simply a technical director. Selan produces 493 b/d of oil and 15,000 cm/d of gas from the Indrora, Bakrol, Lohar, Karjisan and Ognaj fields.

It aims to raise Bakrol production to 80,000 cm/d.
