ONGC director onshore fiasco continues

Vol 17, PW 18 (24 Apr 14) News in Brief

ONGC's director onshore post has been vacant since September 2012 but oil minister Veerappa Moily is still taking his time to clear Ashok Varma's appointment.

ONGC asset manager (eastern offshore) Varma received anti-corruption clearance from the CVC last month (March). “Varma's file is with Moily since early April,” confirms an oil ministry source.

“He isn't signing because of a case in the Delhi High Court filed by K. Satyanarayana.

” Satyanarayana, earlier selected for the director onshore post, filed a case in the Delhi court after he was refused CVC clearance in September 2013 over his alleged involvement in a jobs-for-money scam at ONGC. The ministry opened the envelope containing the name of runner up Varma last December.

“We don't understand why Moily is taking his time,” says a source. “There is no stay order on Satyanarayana's court plea.

” Last week Satyanarayana was selected as COO at ONGC Petro additions (OPaL).
