ONGC's third attempt at 3D tender

Vol 17, PW 5 (03 Oct 13) News in Brief

ONGC is hoping for success in its third attempt to hire a contractor to shoot high-resolution 3D over its ageing Mumbai High and Heera fields.

ONGC is expected to issue a tender later this month (October) to shoot 1600-sq km 3D at Mumbai High and 375-sq km 3D at Heera to re-assess the field reserves. After receiving EoIs in March, ONGC shortlisted France's CGG Veritas, UK-based WesternGeco and Houston’s GX Technology.

ONGC wants all the Mumbai High data processed and interpreted by November 31, 2015 and it wants data from Heera processed and interpreted by May 31, 2014. CGGVeritas was the sole qualified bidder in the first incarnation of this tender in 2011, which ONGC cancelled to avoid favouritism allegations.

No bidders qualified in ONGC’s second tender in 2012. Heera and Mumbai High have been producing for over 35 years.

ONGC needs high resolution 3D to apply Enhanced Oil Recovery and Improved Oil Recovery techniques.
