Former Shell chief new Selan director

Vol 16, PW 15 (21 Feb 13) News in Brief

Derek Corbishley, former Shell India MD from 1995 to 1999, has joined the board of Gurgaon-based and BSE-listed Selan Exploration on February 16.

“Corbishley has rich E&P sector experience,” says a former Shell colleague. Selan, he adds, wants to use Corbishley’s experience as it prepares to drill 11 appraisal and development wells at four onshore Gujarat fields in March: Lohar, Indrora, Bakrol and Karjisan.

British national Corbishley left Delhi after Shell quit exploration in India in 1999, giving away its Rajasthan block to Edinburgh-based Cairn Energy for a song. On January 1, Selan increased its gas price to four sodium silicate factories receiving 22,000 cm/d gas in total from its 36-sq km Bakrol field in Gujarat from Rs11 ($0.20) to Rs12.25/cm ($0.22) excluding VAT.

Selan sells 8000 cm/d to Advatech, 4000 cm/d to Shanti Chemicals and 5000 cm/d each to Excel Industries and GR Industries.
