Vol 16, PW 9 (15 Nov 12) News in Brief

Five years after it first applied Gujarat Gas received a nice Diwali present from the PNGRB this month confirming it has – after all - the right to sell CNG and piped gas in its core operational areas of Surat, Bharuch and Ankleshwar.

PNGRB secretary Ratan Watal confirmed the news in a letter to Gujarat Gas MD Sugata Sircar on November 8. Gujarat Gas was acquired by GSPC from BG on October 3 and operates over 8979-sq km in industrialised south Gujarat.

Until November 7, 2015 the company will benefit from exclusive gas marketing rights in this region. Gujarat Gas wants to increase the number of piped gas connections to homes from 320,000 now to 405,000 by the end of the first year rising further to 490,000 in the second year and 576,000 in the third year.

It also wants to increase its 4300-km gas grid to 4750-km by 2015. Gujarat Gas must deposit Rs5.33cr ($968,000) as a performance bond to the Board.
