Mild-mannered Sashi Shanker, 51, took charge as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the technical and field services department at ONGC’s corporate office in Delhi on August 2.

Shanker, promoted to group general manager in July, will step into the director technical and field services post when UN Bose retires on November 30. “(ONGC chairman) Sudhir Vasudeva confirmed Shanker’s appointment as OSD in mid-July,” says a source.

“Vasudeva felt Shanker must join immediately to get experience.” Shanker will attend ONGC Executive Committee and Executive Purchase Committee meetings over the next few months to decide contract awards.

“The CVC (Central Vigilance Commission) cleared Shanker’s file last month,” we hear. “It will soon go to the ACC (Appointments Committee of the Cabinet) for approval.

” PESB officials selected Shanker, then a general manager, on June 18 to replace Bose, who has held the post since September 27, 2005.
