ONGC shortlists yards

Vol 15, PW 20 (19 Apr 12) News in Brief

Representatives from seven shipyard operators did their best to woo ONGC on April 10 with presentations at the Mumbai Cricket Association hall in the city’s Bandra suburb.

ONGC wants to add more yards which can construct offshore jackets and decks to its approved list, especially as it plans to issue 20 fresh tenders in the coming months, together worth Rs6280cr ($1.26bn). Among those present were Great Offshore offering parent Bharati Shipyard’s Dabhol yard; Larsen & Toubro offering its upcoming Kattupalli yard near Chennai; South Korea’s STX Offshore & Shipbuilding offering yards at Jinhae and Gosung in South Korea and at Dalian in China; Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine offering a Qatar yard owned by Nakilat’s parent Qatar Petroleum; Essar Heavy Engineering Services offering its Hazira yard; ABG Shipyard with its Dahej yard; and Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering with its Pipavav yard.

STX, ABG, Nakilat-Keppel and Pipavav are believed likely to get ONGC approval.
