Das at Bina

Vol 15, PW 9 (03 Nov 11) News in Brief

Bhupati Kumar Das took charge on October 24 as managing director of Bharat Petroleum’s 6m t/y Bina refinery in Madhya Pradesh, replacing UN Joshi.

Das retired on March 31 this year as managing director of BPCL’s Numaligarh Refinery, aged 60. But he can stay at the Bina refinery until 65, explains a company source, since it is promoted by BPCL and Oman Oil Company joint venture Bharat Oman Refineries.

Meanwhile, former Bina managing director Joshi has returned to parent company BPCL as executive director infrastructure at its Mumbai corporate office. “Joshi is a pure infrastructure man,” says a company source.

“BPCL wanted him at Bina while the refinery was under-construction. But since Bina has begun operations (in May 2011), BPCL thought it was time for someone with refinery experience to take charge.

” Numaligarh might only be half the size of Bina, but Das was with the project even before it was commissioned in April 1999, so has plenty of experience.
