Gujarat energy secretary DJ Pandian, 56, could soon be leaving his post.

PETROWATCH learns Pandian has been ‘empanelled’ as an additional secretary in the central government on August 8, which means he could move to a posting in Delhi. However, Pandian can move to Delhi only if the Gujarat government relieves him of his present duties.

“I am neither for nor against going to Delhi,” said Pandian, speaking to this report, on August 20. “I am happy where I am; fortunately, Gujarat is not a bad state to work in.

” Pandian joined the IAS in 1981 and previously served as GSPC managing director from October 2001 until November 2009, when he became Gujarat energy secretary. He was also previously director external commercial borrowings in the union finance ministry from 1995 to 1997.

This was followed by a stint at the World Bank in Washington DC. In total, 55 IAS officers were empanelled by the government’s August 8 order, including four from Gujarat.
