Pandian diverted to Bhavnagar

Vol 18, PW 26 (27 Aug 15) News in Brief

DJ Pandian was all set to make a grand move to Delhi from Gandhinagar but has been embarrassingly diverted to sleepy little Bhavnagar in Gujarat.

PETROWATCH learns the former GSPC chairman and Gujarat chief secretary, who was expected to join the power ministry in Delhi after retiring from Gujarat government service on May 31, was instead appointed on August 19 as the chairman of low profile state-owned Bhavnagar Energy Company. On August 14 Pandian had even made a presentation to power minister Piyush Goyal over an hour-long breakfast meeting in Ahmedabad on how the ‘Gujarat electrification model’ covering all villages can work at a national level.

An optimistic Gandhinagar source believes the Bhavnagar appointment is a stopgap arrangement before Pandian finally makes his dream move to Delhi. Pandian is so set on the bright lights of the capital that he is even said to have turned down an offer to join billionaire Gautam Adani’s Adani Group.
